Mitsubishi Electric R&D Centre Europe

The R&D centre has a team of highly qualified researchers, bringing together digital and energy sciences to unite the worlds of communication and power electronics.

As an open European centre, Mitsubishi Electric R&D Centre collaborates with other research organisations and puts lots of effort into joint research and development programs with other actors in the framework of National and European research projects.

The industrial research laboratory was established in Europe in November 1995 and was named Mitsubishi Electric Information Technology Centre Europe. The R&D centre was split over two sites, TCL located in Rennes (France) dedicated to Telecommunications and VIL in Guilford (UK) dedicated to Visual and Information Processing. On 1st October 2008, Mitsubishi Electric Information Technology Centre Europe officially changed its name to Mitsubishi Electric R&D Centre Europe to act the new mission and strategy of our centre to contribute not only to communication and visual systems but also to a brand new activity dedicated to energy and environment.

Mitsubishi Electric Corporation as a whole is committed to provide efficient and innovative solutions related to energy & environment and will contribute to the development of a “green” society by factorising its core competences in electrical, mechanical and communication domains.

To enhance its research activities, Mitsubishi Electric R&D Centre Europe is fully committed to an open innovation approach through various bilateral and multilateral cooperation activities with national, European and international partners.

The research activities generate many patent registrations as well as publications in the most prestigious scientific reviews. The laboratory also takes part in international standardisation bodies in hopes of contributing to the design of future generations of products in an increasingly global market. Through its scientific excellence, the laboratory anticipates the adoption of future technologies and prepares the way for a connected, sustainable and energy-efficient world.

Social responsibility

Social responsibility is an integral part of all of Mitsubishi Electric group’s activities. The company’s motto “Changes for the Better” is reflected daily in the quality of its research and in a code of ethics shared by all employees.

Mitsubishi Electric R&D Centre Europe is fully committed to the Mitsubishi Electric group’s environmental approach. The objective is to provide, by 2021, the solutions to achieve a low-carbon society that will promote recycling and respect biodiversity.

The laboratory has developed as part of an international group where scientific excellence, curiosity, team spirit and a multi-cultural mindset are the key qualities of its employees. Mitsubishi Electric R&D Centre Europe also plays an active role in training young postgraduate students by providing an extremely dynamic working environment that includes leading researchers in their respective fields.

Mitsubishi Electric R&D Centre Europe is the European arm of Mitsubishi Electric Corporation with one entity located in Rennes (France) and one entity located in Livingston (UK).
